How to Dress Appropriately in Slovenia

To say that Slovenia is a Mediterranean jewel would be an understatement. Although it is sometimes overshadowed by its neighbours, Italy to the west and Croatia to the east, I fell in love with it in precisely zero seconds even though this was the case.

It is an alternative for a Mediterranean vacation that is far less crowded with tourists, and it features everything from stunning beaches and towering mountains to one of the most gorgeous lakes in the world.

Because of its compact size and high standard of road maintenance, Slovenia is an excellent destination for anyone interested in taking a road trip. In addition, you can go by using the railway or one of the tourist buses. It is simple to see why so many tourists want to prolong their vacation to Slovenia because the nation is very tiny yet contains a surprising number of hidden treasures.

The far southeastern section of Bela Krajina was consistently one of my favourites. This is a nice spot to stop and enjoy a calm lunch in the countryside beside the Kolpa River and get to know some of the locals. It is known for its wine and handicrafts and is a popular tourist destination.

Ljubljana

Lake Bled & Lake Bohinj

SUMMER: These lakes, which look like they belong in a storybook, are the first destination for many tourists who have been to Ljubljana. When you get there, it’s not hard to understand why people feel that way about it. I just couldn’t get over how beautiful the lakes were to look at!

Although Bled receives more visitors and is widely considered to be the most beautiful of the two lakes, Bohinj has its own identity and is well worth exploring.

WINTER: Atop the hill of Ojstrica, you may get some of the most breathtaking views of Lake Bled. To get there, you’ll have to go on a strenuous walk, but the reward will be well worth the effort. Bring along some hiking clothes that will keep you comfortable, such as a t-shirt and athletic shorts in the summer, lined leggings and a thick outer layer in the fall or winter, and a decent pair of hiking shoes from the Sinsay site.

Portorož Beach

Visitors to the area almost often head to the beaches in Croatia or Italy that are located nearby; as a result, the 47 kilometres of coastline that Slovenia has to see far fewer tourists. A big number of people visit Portoro Beach throughout the warmer months since it is one of the few sandy beaches in the area. Make travel plans for the shoulder seasons so you can still get some sun when there are fewer people around.

Even if the temperatures don’t get quite as warm as they do in other parts of the Mediterranean, the sun’s rays are still fairly powerful. To make the most of your day spent lounging on the sand, be sure to bring along a large sun hat, some high-quality sunscreen, and a beach towel.

Backpacking across the Julian Alps

I strongly recommend that if you are going to Slovenia to enjoy the great outdoors you look into hiking some of the paths in the Julian Alps while you are there. Climbing Mount Triglav is something of a tradition for Slovenians; it is quite difficult to find a local who has not made it to the peak, even though it is not an easy feat.

When you start your journey on a warm day when the sun is shining, you can get away with wearing shorts and a loose-fitting T-shirt.
